Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

Building Systems Design

  • Lead the design of electrical building systems, including normal and emergency power, interior and exterior lighting, fire alarm, technology, and security systems.
  • Prepare electrical layouts, construction documents, and technical drawings throughout all phases of design.
  • Perform lighting, voltage drop, and short circuit calculations to support project development.
  • Develop electrical cost estimates and assist with project documentation.

Project Leadership

  • Lead the electrical design scope of projects while collaborating with project managers, engineers, architects, and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Coordinate electrical system layouts with other building disciplines.
  • Support project managers by meeting project schedules, quality standards, and client expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with project team members throughout the design process.

Construction Administration

  • Perform field investigations to document existing electrical systems and site conditions.
  • Review shop drawings, Requests for Information (RFIs), change proposals, and pay applications during construction.
  • Coordinate with contractors and project consultants to support successful project delivery.

Technical Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to electrical designers and BIM staff.
  • Review electrical design documents for accuracy, coordination, and compliance with established standards.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices while supporting the development of less-experienced team members.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, client-focused environment built on technical excellence and quality design.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience designing building electrical systems for commercial, educational, municipal, or similar facilities.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical specifications.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead electrical design efforts and coordinate complex projects.
  • Experience mentoring electrical designers and BIM staff.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional and client-focused approach to project delivery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified in Electrical Design or equivalent industry experience.
  • Experience designing lighting, power, fire alarm, technology, and security systems.
  • Experience supporting construction administration activities, including field investigations and submittal reviews.
  • Experience working on K-12, higher education, municipal, commercial, or public safety projects.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, coordinated building system designs.
